LET'S GET FUNKY!

I have to admit, as much as I adore live music, having a drink and being with my friends I have never ever been to a festival.

I know...

The idea has always made me excited, but then I remember the camping and the mud and rain. Not to mention my love of small intimate gigs, which a big festival just can't recreate. Watching my favourite bands so far away from the stage simply isn't my cup of tea.

However!

I recently discovered a festival that I am really excited to go to. It is called STEREOFUNK and it is the exactly the festival I have been looking for!

What is great about Stereofunk is that it is fairly small and not all that well known. Which solves the problem of feeling detached from the bands performance. It is largely unsigned bands who take part, which is so appealing to me as I love to discover unsigned acts.

Unfortunately, I can't give you much info on the festival as the official 2012 website hasn't even been released! What I can tell you is that it is on the 6th of May, 12PM - 10.30PM. Tickets are £25 and is held in Strathclyde Country Park.

Maybe I will see you there! ;)

Let's Talk Tenement TV

Tenement TV is a brilliant website created by Chae Houston and Paul McJimpsey of  PMCJ productions who film both up and coming and well known bands and artists from their Glasgow flat. Artists include The Imagineers, Nina Nesbitt, the Orange Unsigned Act winner Tommy Reilly and Sky One's 'Must Be The Music'  winner and former busker Emma's Imagination.

If you are interested in the Glasgow Music Scene then you simply HAVE to check this website out. It is superb for getting a real taste of some home grown Scottish music (along with acts from all across the globe) and it keeps you up to date on bands and artists that you haven't yet discovered. The sessions are done in a simple yet wonderfully raw acoustic style which really shows off the bands and artists true talent.

I really could go on and on but instead why not check it out yourself! I've even made it easy for you:

The official site: http://www.tenementtv.com/

Here is a link to the official Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/tenementtv

And the Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/tenementtv

They recently had a great interview with website glasgowmusic.co.uk which you can check out if you click here. It really gives you a good insight into the aims and workings of the website and it is quite funny and entertaining!

And to finish off, here is one of my favourite sessions from the site. Guaranteed to get you in a good mood. The River 68's..

Gig Review! (No Need For Idols, King Tut's)

Their first gig at King Tuts was a huge accomplishment for the band and they certainly didn't let the opportunity to go waste. There was so much about the performance which was absolutely key to why they make such a great band.

Firstly, the original music. They played 'What's Become Of Me?', 'Takin' Over', 'Truth', 'The Other One', 'For All I've Done', and their classics 'Here We Go' and 'Walk Away'. To finish off the show they played a belter of a cover of Slither by Velvet Revolver and ended the show on an absolute high. For anyone who has been to the gigs before you'll know 'Here We Go' and 'Walk Away' are up beat songs perfect to dance and sing along to (I say sing, really you are shouting) and it was great to hear new songs which kept it feeling fresh and a little different from past performances.

Secondly, the sound. The band sounds superb live. There are so many bands that are simply better as recording artists, and just don't have it together when it comes to live performances. However, the vocals and the instrumentals remained strong and consistant throughout every song and this band impress both live and on their EP.

Thirdly, stage presence. There is individuality in each band members stage presence which works wonderfully. Oliver is always moving around stage and is anything but static! He really knows how to get the audience going and jumping around, this fits their style of rock music perfectly. Callum is equally as impressive as you can really tell that he is enjoying himself on stage as he plays, which makes it all the more enjoyable to watch. As for Conor and Ben they take a slightly more chilled out approach and keep their cool as they play, which creates a brilliant contrast on stage and they stand with such posture that they command your attention as much as they other members. Also I should note that Ben's ability to play guitar behind his head during one of the songs really was the icing on the cake. I feel that unfortunately sometimes drummers in bands are over looked when performing on stage. However, how could you possibly miss Adam! I am surprised he didn't totally destroy the drum kit, there was some serious thrashing which looked and sounded amazing (despite some questionable facial expressions). Everyone's performance complimented each other down to every last detail.

It is impossible to go to a No Need For Idols gig and stand still. You will be jumping, foot tapping, head nodding perhaps without even realising! You can't escape the energy and it spreads throughout every audience member.

I really admire all the enthusiasm the guys put into their performance, they really do give it absolutely 110 per cent! They have such a great sound and a real raw talent that you simply cannot deny.

But hey, that is just my opinion, why don't you go along to the next up coming gig and see for yourself what you think.

(One last thing, boys, never cut your hair!)

No Need For Idols

The band No Need For Idols are a group of friends from Falkirk, who all have a keen interest in making music and decided to form the band in 2009. The members are Oliver Kitchen with vocals, Conor Matheson on guitar, Callum Waddell on bass, Adam Kerry on drums and Ben MacDonald on lead guitar. They started off their very first live performance in their home town and since then have shot up in popularity among friends and family.

Their EP was released in October 2011 and can be found on iTunes.

The boys have had a great success with playing in Glasgow venues such as Ivory Blacks and the O2 ABC2. Since then they have had even more success and have secured themselves a gig at King Tuts! This is a brilliant step forward as so many big bands have started off in this venue, such as the likes of Oasis, Radiohead and The Verve.

I am positive this coming gig is sure to catapult the band in the right direction, resulting in even more success!

If you are interested in going to the gig, it is on Friday 2nd March and starts at 20:30. Having attended many of their gigs in the past I would highly recommend you check them out especially as tickets are only £6!

Here is a little taster for you! Hope to see you all there.

REVIEW OF THIS VERY GIG IS COMING SOON!
